[1] Binaural Beats
ABSAdomain no.: 1
[Primary] Knowledge Type: Exoteric
Role in ABSAprime's Worldview: Moderate
ABSAlink(s): TBA [through ABSAdomain interaction]
Degree of Difficulty: Very easy
"The brain can be entrained to resonate at different frequencies, and this entrainment can lead to shifts in consciousness, awareness, and even perception.” -- Dr. Robert Monroe

“The brain is essentially a frequency analyzer, and it processes information in terms of waves and frequencies.” -- Dr. Karl Pribram

“The rhythmic activity of the brain is closely connected to the rhythms of the external world. The brain can synchronize with external frequencies, demonstrating its adaptability and responsiveness.” -- Dr. Hans Berger
“The voice can only produce what the ear can hear. By modifying what the air perceives, we can change how the voice and even our entire being functions. -- Dr. Alfred Tomatis

Binaural beats, also known as binaural entrainment, represents a method of altering perception and information processing by employing sound tones to activate particular brain regions. The term "binaural" signifies that these tones are typically experienced through both ears at the same time.

So, is this stuff "legit"?

Quite apart from the fact that both we and you can personally (and pretty easily) verify the effects of binaural resources (to see how easily, just go on YouTube and search "binaural beats" and you 'll see what we mean!). this domain has some science to back up some of the claims it makes regarding sound/tone therapy and mental activity. After just a cursory glance, one can see that binaural entrainment has established scientific measurement of, and improvement in, sleep and concentration for study.
At the same time--and in this it shares a fate with other, putatively legitimate, "mind expansion" approaches--binaural entrainment has seen its principles exploited in (supposedly) questionable ways and for (supposedly) nefarious purposes. Thus, it'd be wise to be ready for some pretty outrageous promises.
ABSAprime reported she saw one that gobsmacked her: it suggested that the user of this particular kind of binaural entrainment could reverse the effects of an evil voodoo spell! You can see many of these as you sample the multitude of YouTube offerings. However, it remains the case that, with few exceptions, the effects of binaural entrainment seem quite benign. As you'll learn here repeatedly, the operative phrase is "caveat emptor" ("Let The Buyer Beware"). If it smells fishy, it probably is!
Here's something else to consider
But let's get serious for a moment, and note something that gets to the core of what we, as ABSApundits, are all about. Although we could provide plenty of snark (you know that!), laughing about the absurdity of some of the more outrageous claims for binaural entrainment, in reality we should probably be testing these ourselves!
whu-ut?! Yes, that's right: even if something seems absurd, our preferred approach is, on a purely provisional basis, to take it seriously, since it is the product of human minds just like yours, operating within the same kinds of constraints imposed by their multifaceted cultural assimilation, same as you. Or, as Seth himself puts it, "Your impulses are connected to the creative process. They are not merely fleeting whims, but glimpses of the soul's desire to express itself through your personality."

Of course, the chief limitation to taking this tack is the curious investigator's time: not enough to test everything one would like to. If you're curious about something, and you suspect it might be more important, then give it your attention. As Seth (ABSAdomain03) says, "You must allow the creative impulses to emerge, but you must also use your intellect and reason to direct them toward a creative goal. This balance is part of your natural creative function."
How will you know it's "important"? Respect your impulses. It's like Seth often says, the energy that comprises Framework Two (where all space and time is simultaneous) rises up into our immediate consciousness (called "Framework One") where it first manifests as impulse, often with seemingly no connection to "reality."

In other words, your impulses are natural expressions in the physical world (at least the one you seem to experience) as you know it, but they don't come from there: they come from a source far greater and more complex which, unfortunately, you may not be in a position to understand, at least not until you have spent more time with these systems.
Great entry point for Neo-ABSAs
NeoABSAs, of course, are our friends coming to ABSApundit for the first time. the first thing that someone who, interested in what we do, looks for is...a place to start 🤔. We placed binaural beats at the beginning of the ABSAdomains because of the simplicity of the approach, which renders it immediately and profitably accessible. However, the stimuli present us with fascinating avenues for experimentation, especially given the natural alignment between sleep and the dream state.
Invitation to "good vibes"
One fascinating point (which you'll encounter over and over again as you explore various ABSAdomains): if ever you are discouraged by all the negativity that assaults your eyes on the Web--insults, name-calling, put-downs, and so on--the comments on YouTube from people concerning the many (many!) videos of various presentations of Binaural tones (you'll find some with pure tones, some using Tibetan singing bowls, some with sounds from nature) will wash that unpleasantness away.
The (often hundreds) of comments on any given video are nearly universally supportive of whoever is reading at the moment. Sure, a good bit of this can be a trifle cheesy, but spending some time reading such comments is, for us, bestows a feeling like one might get from splashing water on one's face from a cold, clear spring--cleansing and refreshing. Try it, and then come share what you feel with our ABSAcommunity.
